The Walker House Heritage Centre welcomes visitors to take a step back in time with memories of vacations in Kincardine and area.

The "Gone to the Beach" exhibit is set to open in mid-June and Samantha Young, children's summer program leader, encourages people to check out the display.

In particular, there is a giant map of the area, and Young hopes each individual will put a sticky note on the area where he/she vacationed in the Kincardine area. There is also a book in which to write down vacation memories.

The exhibit area of the Walker House has undergone some changes as well. The "Gone to the Beach" display is located where the Paddy Walker display used to be, at the north end of the building. That will also be the main entrance (the side door facing Huron Terrace), rather than the door facing Harbour Street. The gift shop is also set up there.

The Paddy Walker exhibit is now in the old gift shop area, along with a library of Kincardine history. Young said it will be more conducive for people who want to research their family lineage.

The dining room on the west end of the Walker House will house an exhibit, honouring the 101st anniversary of Scouting in Kincardine. It is scheduled to open later this month, with documents and photos of Lord Baden Powell, John "Skip" Reynolds and other major characters from the past century of Scouting.

Upstairs in the room formerly used by the Kincardine Scottish Festival, will be a Bruce Beach exhibit, said Young. People have loaned to the Walker House, items used in their cottages 40-50 years ago, for this display.
