If you want to park your tractor on the main street in Lucknow, you can do so but for only 30 minutes at a time. Huron-Kinloss council last night (June 21) approved an amendment to its traffic and parking bylaw that says no person shall at any time park a tractor for a consecutive period of time greater than 30 minutes on Campbell Street, between Montgomery Lane and Washington Street. If this section of the bylaw is violated, the township has the authority to have the tractor towed. This amendment was prompted by a complaint from Joan Pollard of MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home who brought the issue to council at its general committee meeting June 7. At that meeting, she said the individual who owns the tractor lives near where the funeral home is located and not only leaves the tractor parked on the main street, but trailers and unlicensed vehicles that are posted for sale.

"It began as a nuisance," she said, "but now it's a major problem. He drives a tractor around town and has no regard for the community. It's a hardship for local small businesses, especially if he parks in front of your place of business." Andy Stopford of the South Bruce OPP, said the problem for the police is that a tractor is not a motor vehicle and it's not licensed so there's not a lot they can do unless the individual is driving it dangerously down the street. Council hopes this amendment to the traffic and parking bylaw will deal with the problem.
