Kincardine council has agreed to increase the posted speed limit to 60 km/h from 50 km/h on Tie Road, between the 2nd and 4th Concessions of the former Bruce Township, beside the Bruce Nuclear plant. In committee-of-the-whole Wednesday night (June 2), public works manager Jim O'Rourke said that the South Bruce OPP have enforced the speed limit in the recent past which has prompted some motorists to challenge the posted limit. The motorists are requesting a speed-limit increase. "The OPP were contacted by telephone, and verbally expressed their preference that the posted speed limit of 50 km/h remain," said O'Rourke. However, the municipal engineers from B.M. Ross and Associates, said the design of the curves in that section of road would limit the maximum design speed to 70 km/h, O'Rourke said. "The posted speed limit should be no greater than 10 km/h below the design speed."

The public works committee has recommended the speed-limit increase. O'Rourke said signage along the roadway will be changed, as well as signage just outside the gate of the nuclear plant. "But it will be 60 km/h not 110 km/h," he said, with a laugh. In council session, the change was approved.
