More than 80 nuclear security professionals from around the world have gathered in Collingwood this week at a workshop which aims to share better security practices.

The World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) workshop is being hosted by Bruce Power and discussion topics include security guard recruitment, motivation, training and site deployment policy. Bruce Power will also conduct a demonstration exercise at the Land Forces Central Area Training Centre in Meaford.

WINS was established to provide an international forum for nuclear security professionals to discuss and exchange best security practices,” said Dr. Roger Howsley, executive director of WINS.

“We look forward to this opportunity to learn from one another and to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of security arrangements for nuclear and radioactive materials.”

Bruce Power has demonstrated its security team is among the world's best and it looks to defend its championship title for the third year in a row at the U.S. National SWAT Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Earlier this month, Bruce Power finished first in its category at the U.S. Department of Energy's Security Protection Officer Team competition for the fifth year running.

WINS membership consists of more than 300 corporate and individual members from 50 countries around the world.
