All workers were back on the job June 1 at Bruce B, Unit 6, after a heavy water spill May 31. Bruce Power spokesman John Peevers said all indications showed there was no impact on anyone’s health or the environment, adding that testing is under way. Peevers said the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) sets the regulatory level for exposure of an employee at 5,000 millirems per year. He said Bruce Power will do a follow up with CNSC when it’s determined how and why the heavy water was spilled in the unit which has been shut down for a planned maintenance inspection. Peevers said the contaminated water will be recycled and reused back in the system. |
