Last Wednesday evening, the Ripley and District Horticultural Society had guest Betty Lamont talking about container plantings. This Wednesday evening, starting at 6 p.m. from Lewis Park, there is a walking garden tour of Ripley - rain date Thursday evening. Don't the containers on the street corners look great? These planters were also built by the Ripley Horticultural Society members.

Last week, the Young Farmers delegates and hosts were touring Bruce and Grey counties and visited the Bruce Nuclear plant, Keady Market, Eugenia Falls, the Scenic Caves at Collingwood, Tobermory and the Grotto, the Singing Sands, Station Beach in Kincardine, the Tractor Pull in Dungannon, watched the Tractor Square Dancers from Teeswater and helped out with 4-H Discovery Days. A very busy week and Huron County is hosting them this week.

On Sunday, the Logtenberg family got together at Jim and Fran Farrell's with almost everyone in attendance. Since they haven't been together since Grandpa's birthday in March they were celebrating April, May, June birthdays, Anniversaries and Graduations! Special congratulations to Derk and Lillian Logtenberg who are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this week!

Congratulations to TobiKay, daughter of John and Joyce Farrell, who recently got engaged to David Paul Droppet of St. Catharines.

Doug and Shirley are enjoying a visit from Sheena and William Houghton and children, Alayna and Ethan, of Michigan.

Don and Marilyn Reid celebrated Father's Day with family members.

Morley and Deanna Scott attended the Petteplace Reunion in Chesley. Saturday, they attended a Memorial Service in Midland for Deanna's cousin, Carol Dunkel. On Sunday, Morley and Deanna enjoyed a visit with Bruce and Lisa Watke and family of Carrick Township.

Tom MacDonald of Fort Nelson, B.C., and his brother, George of Kincardine, visited with relatives and friends in the area recently.

There was a terrific response to the Auction Sale at June and Earl Elliott's Saturday. It was such fun to visit with neighbours and friends and to meet new folks living in our area.

Earl and June Elliott had their son, Steve and Jan Elliott of Blind River, and son, Ian Elliott of Barrie, visiting for a few days.

This past weekend, Mary Anne Kukoly entertained an "Auntie" and two girls from the Watoto Children's Choir of Uganda. Also entertaining children in their homes were Brian and Laura Ross and girls, and Becky and Andrew Courtney. What a blessing to get to know more about the singers and their country.

We are thankful that Marie Colling is home from her stay at the Kincardine and Owen Sound hospitals. Get well quickly, Marie.

Mary Anne Kukoly has returned from her tour of the Western Provinces. She drove out to Edmonton with a friend who was moving out there. While in Edmonton, her brother, Dick, came down to visit and drive her to Jasper to connect with the "Skeena" train. What a delight to be able to ride in the Dome Car from Jasper to Terrace. Mary Anne's family in Kitimat were enjoying unseasonably warm, sunny weather for the first part of May. It was great to reconnect with all her family and especially all the great-grandchildren.
On her way back home, she spent a few days with her Mason cousins in Prince George, then up to Mackenzie, on to Helen, Bill and Maegan Colwell's at Sunset Prairie, B.C. Her final lap of the trip was to spend a few days with Eileen (Collins) and Rich Martzas of Airdrie, Alberta. She also enjoyed a visit with Marlee and Carl Collins of Airdrie before flying home from Calgary. What a pure delight to be able to fly to the Kitchener Airport.
It was good to catch up on local news with Ruthe and Hugh Duncan at Bloomingdale before heading back to Ripley. And, as Marjorie Reid used to say, "Doesn't Ripley look good?"
