Kincardine District Secondary School students and staff said goodbye to four retirees: three teachers and one education assistant, during the annual awards assembly Wednesday morning at the school.

Ellen Holroyd has been an education assistant at KDSS since 2001, working at the Bervie campus for the past four years.

Dance teacher Sandy Brown has been the inspiration for the Spring Arts Show for many years, besides her regular classroom teaching duties and coaching volleyball. She thanked everyone for a great send-off and said it was an honour to teach such wonderful students.

"I had some great students, if not in my dance class or on my volleyball team, they were coming into my classroom with a smile on their faces ready for some crazy activities," said Brown. "I will remember you all with great warmth."

Bill Smith has been teaching for 30 years, 21 of those at KDSS.

Reading off a list of names, he noted that those students were in his first classroom at the school in Ripley. Now, he has had the pleasure of teaching their children. "As I leave, you can tell your parents, it's still 'not too bad'," he said.

Music and math teacher Mike Mullen had a musical send-off from one of his guitar students, Al Friolet, who had composed a song just for Mr. Mullen.
