The Parson’s Court Extension in Goderich is moving forward.

Goderich council discussed the issue further at the meeting Monday night (June 14). Several letters were presented to council over the past couple of weeks, stating disapproval for the development of 35 acres of vacant land, for industrial use. The letter writers indicated council did not follow proper procedure in securing the okay to go ahead with the plan to develop the land and to put in an access road at the end of Parson’s Court.

Council presented letters, documenting that requests were submitted for an Environmental Assessment (EA), and that public consultations were held, to go ahead with a development plan. The proponents to the plan, and councillor Heather Lyons who also opposes the work, were not available at the end of the council meeting for comment.

In other council business ...

  • A plaque was presented to Goderich's Senior Citizen of the Year, Russel Alton.
  • Clerk/administrator Larry McCable told council that an update will be given at the next council meeting on the moving of the former CPR Railway Station, as part of the Harbourfront Rehabilitation Project, by developer Herb Marshall. McCabe says plans will be shown for the move with setbacks from the shoreline, given by the Avon Maitland Conservation Authority. The public will have the opportunity to look at the details of the plan and comment on them.
