A sign posting Station Beach, Kincardine, unsafe for swimming has not deterred the crowd of people enjoying the beach and swimming in the water

goers

For the first time in recent history, Kincardine's Station Beach, south of the harbour, has been posted unsafe for swimming.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit put up the sign Friday (July 2), citing high levels of bacteria in the water and advising people to swim at their own risk.

The water will be re-tested Monday (July 5) and, if found to be below the provincial bacteriological standards, a second test will be completed on Tuesday (July 6). If the second test meets the same standards, then the posting will be lifted by the health unit.

Robert Reid, public health inspector, said that further information can be found on the health unit website at www.publichealthgreybruce.on.ca

Meanwhile, the barely-visible sign, attached to a no-bikes allowed sign, was hardly a deterrent Friday afternoon as people were soaking up the sun and swimming in the water at Station Beach.
