If you were planning to drive along Bruce County Road 7, from Ripley to Highway 86, you will have to find a detour. A section of that roadway, known as the Ripley Road, was washed away in the torrential rainfall that hit the area Sunday night (June 27). Huron-Kinloss public works director Hugh Nichol said the heavy rain washed out the road and the steel culvert. The road was officially closed by the county Sunday night. He said the county highways department has to determine what caused the wash-out before it decides what to do to fix it. Motorists from Lucknow are being sent north along the Huron-Kinloss boundary to the 2nd Concession and then west to Highway 21, said Nichol. From Ripley, drivers are being detoured along the 2nd Concession to either Highway 21 to the west or the township boundary to the east. As for the rest of the township, Nichol said there were a lot of roadways overflowing with water, mainly near the lakefront, and numerous stormdrains were backed up because the catch basins couldn't move the water fast enough.
