Sunday, July 4, 2010 the Anglican Parish of Saugeen Shores celebrated the ministry of Rev. Margaret Greenhow who has served the parish for 11 years until her retirement May 1.

Jim Stark, Warden at St. Paul’s, Southampton, welcomed over 100 people to worship at 11:00 on the Rectory lawn at the corner of High and Victoria Streets.  Worship was lead by Archdeacon Peter Moore who is offering worship leadership throughout the summer as the parish searches for a new Rector.

Reverend Margaret con-celebrated the Eucharist, offered words of reflection and pronounced the blessing.

The parish, which includes St. John’s in Port Elgin, has been waiting for a chance to celebrate Margaret’s ministry after a stroke in late November 2009 affected her speech and writing abilities.  Now that Margaret’s retirement is official and the parish has had a chance to celebrate, Margaret and her husband Ralph can settle in to retirement in the home that they have purchased in Southampton.

In thanksgiving for Margaret’s ministry, the parish presented she and Ralph with a membership to Chippewa Golf and Country Club.  Greetings and best wishes were brought from the Town of Saugeen Shores, with the presence of Mayor, Mike Smith, who Margaret reminded, “He is an Anglican, you know!”

Reverend Keith Reynolds, Southampton United church offered grace before the lunch, Reverend Creola Simpson, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, offered a beautiful purple prayer scarf and the Port Elgin Legion brought Margaret a watercolour print to recognize her role as chaplain to the Legion.

Other local clergy, members of the community and clergy from the Deanery also attended.  The parish will miss Reverend Margaret’s leadership but is thankful that she and Ralph have put down roots in the community.
