August 5, 2010 is the date for the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary 21st Golf Tournament at Saugeen Golf Club, the largest fundraiser of the year for the Auxiliary.

This year’s 18-hole tournament features a putting competition, team prizes and an opportunity to win a two year lease on a Ford Fusion sponsored by Peninsula Ford and Port Elgin Home Hardware and $5,000 cash prize sponsored by Hills Insurance.

The tournament finishes with dinner and prizes and each golfer receives a tax receipt for part of the registration.

Auxiliary past president Mary McCallum said that the Hospital Auxiliary will be raising funds through the golf tournament for continued improvements for the care and comfort of the patients at Saugeen Memorial Hospital in Southampton.

"The tournament in 2008 raised $26,000.00, some of which was used to purchase specially built remote television sets for every patient bed in our local hospital. Up to that point there were only two movable sets available," McCallum explained.   "This year, in addition to many auxiliary members and friends working behind the scenes, the Southampton Residents Association will be on board in assisting to put on what will be a very exciting tournament.  Many corporate sponsors, including Martin's Home Hardware, Legault's Independent, Bruce Power and many others, have been very supportive in providing major donations to get the tournament off to a spectacular start. "

The cost to enter the tournament is $100 for non-members and $60 for members of the Saugeen Golf club and will include golf, dinner and a charitable receipt along with a chance to win many prizes.

In addition to the popular putting contest, according to sources, there may "... possibly be some surprise events at the dinner."

Volunteers are also needed.  Contact: Jane Harlock at 519-797-1879, Mary McCallum at 519-797-2043 or Heather Mulchey at 519-797-5453.

Golf Registration: Saugeen Golf Club at 519-797-031.

"We appreciate the support of the golfers and sponsors who have made the golf tournament our major fundraiser over the years," adds McCallum, "thereby helping to keep health care close to home.”
