Sandy,

The question that you are posing about the dunes is very interesting and I am sure very sensitive to all of the residents of Saugeen Shores. It is one that is especially sensitive to all residents living in harmony with them.

I share the concerns of the beach front residents. I also am in favour of an outside independent consultant review of the status of our dune system, and what they feel could be done.

However, let us not forget that the shoreline of Lake Huron is a very fragile environment. The plants and animals that inhabit these areas are faced with a range of challenging conditions. Various plants and animals are living on the edge of their tolerable limits and have little or no defense against the actions of humans.

I only ask that we are as sensitive to their needs as we are to those of their human counterparts. Remember dunes and the plants on them are a vital part of the shoreline ecosystem.

Hopefully once we obtain an expert opinion we will be much more informed as to the correct path forward. Our dunes and our beaches are a vital part of our Community so let’s make sure we get it right for the benefit of all of our residents.
