Due to the recent heavy rains, the Southampton beach south of the river was in bad shape today.  There was an accumulation of debris and some dead animals who must have been overcome in the recent rush of water down the Saugeen.

Every community of size along the coast from Grand Bend, Bayfield, Goderich, Southampton and on to  Sauble Beach was developed to take advantage of a nearby river.

When heavy storms develop and depending upon the wind and wave action, the beaches may become unsightly for a while.

Today, July 25, 2010, there was much talk in the community of Southampton about the looks of the beach.  Some old timers say they have not seen this before.  To be sure it has happened, however.
