Thirty students from Bruce and Grey counties have been accepted into this area’s fifth annual MedQUEST Health Careers Exploration Program.

Scheduled to run July 12-16 at Walkerton District Secondary School, the medical-based summer program introduces students in Grades 10 and 11 to various health care professions. Last year’s participants were taught to conduct a physical exam, attempted resuscitation on a simulated mannequin, delivered a simulated baby, job-shadowed local physicians and other health care workers, and took part in a mock disaster.

This year, 57 students from 12 high schools in Bruce-Grey applied for the local MedQUEST program, one of six being run in the province this summer through the Southwestern Ontario Medical Education Network at the University of Western Ontario’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Bruce-Grey program is being led by medical school student counsellors John Hachey, Drew Schappert and Marc Ysseltein.
