Despite some misgivings on the part of one of its members, Kincardine council has accepted the lowest tender bid to remove and install steel siding on the annex at the Whitney Crawford Community Centre in Tiverton. In committee-of-the-whole last night, recreation director Karen Kieffer brought forward the tender results for the project. Of the three bids, North Star Carpentry was the lowest at $29,399.48. The other two were Bluewater Construction at $30,503.72 and Chad Woods General Contracting at $37,651.20. Councillor Mike Leggett said he is concerned about the two lowest bids because of sub-standard work those companies have provided in the past. "Chad Woods is a licensed carpenter and does good work," he said.

Councillor Guy Anderson suggested the matter should be moved into closed session. However, chief administrative officer John deRosenroll went on to explain that with tender bids, the low qualified tender is accepted in all contracts. "Staff is recommending that you not go with the highest bid; otherwise, cancel the project," he said. Council awarded the tender to North Star Carpentry. The budget for this project was $40,000.
