Huron-Kinloss mayor Mitch Twolan and councillor Jim Hanna are hosting septic socials at their residences this Saturday (July 10).

These septic socials are part of the township's Community Septic Inspections program. Residents of the Silver Lake area in the former Kinloss Township are encouraged to attend the septic social, starting at 10 a.m. at Hanna’s home at 1572 Bruce Road 1.

A septic social for the residents of Blairs Grove and Lurgan Beach, hosted by Twolan at 20 Blairs Trail, will start at 1:30 p.m.

Local residents in the Blairs Grove, Lurgan Beach, and Silver Lake areas have been encouraged to come to these socials and see the inspection process, meet the inspector, and ask any questions they have about the program. The inspector will also be available to set up appointments with residents to have their septic systems inspected.

The program began in 2007 and will inspect all the septic systems within the township on a rotating cycle of six to seven years. Between 2007 and 2009, about 1,000 systems have been inspected. More than 180 appointments for inspections have been booked for the current inspection season, to date.

The inspection program is a joint project among the township, the Grey Bruce Health Unit and B.M. Ross and Associates Limited.

For more information on the inspection demonstration or the project, contact Pam Scharfe at 519-524-2641 or E-mail: pscharfe@bmross.net.
