The air-conditioning system in the lower level of the Kincardine Arts Centre has collapsed and needs repairing or replacing.

That's the word from Kincardine councillor Kenneth Craig as he brought the matter to council Wednesday night (July 14).

He said the system gave out the previous week and Norm Annetts, of the arts centre committee, and the centre's custodian both suggested getting the system checked before deciding whether to fix it or replace it.

The air-conditioning is about 25 to 30 years old, said chief administrative officer John deRosenroll so the cost of a replacement unit would be around $20,000.

"The arts centre committee does not have that money in the capital budget which is why I'm bringing this to council," said Craig. "We need to get an inspection done to know whether it needs to be repaired or replaced."

"Take the money out of the reserve for the building (arts endowment reserve) and get it fixed up," said councillor Guy Anderson.

"Do you want us to report back and get approval before we go ahead?" asked Craig.

"By the time you bring back a report, we won't need the air-conditioning," said Anderson.

However, council agreed to have the arts centre committee get a consultant in to look at the system and bring a report back to council.
