Ken Jackson Construction of Inverhuron has been awarded the tender for street reconstruction in Tiverton.

In committee-of-the-whole Wednesday night (July 14), Kincardine council heard from public works manager Jim O'Rourke that two tenders were received for the project: Jackson's at $142,189.26; and Lavis Contracting Co. Limited at $157,377.70.

O'Rourke recommended the low bid for the job. The budget for this project was $150,000.

The work includes the following:

  • Surface asphalt on Smith Street
  • Surface asphalt on Webster Street
  • Reconstruction of a curb-faced sidewalk with associated landscaping and drainage works on King Street
  • Provisional items for drainage swale on Conquergood Avenue and farm lane paving (at owner's expense) regarding Municipal Drain No. 19

O'Rourke said Jackson's can begin work either the first or second week of August and can meet the Sept. 17 completion date.

"I hope we don't get any extra billing for this work," said councillor Randy Roppel.

"Duly noted," said O'Rourke.

Council approved the contract with Jackson Construction.
