The inaugural weekend of the Ripley Farmers' Market saw a small group of vendors but a fairly substantial crowd of customers, checking out the wares for sale.

Friday morning (July 2), Robert Bond of Rob's Rustic Gardens in Kinlough had a variety of plants on display, while John Cortan of Ripley had stamps, books and antiques for people to browse through.

Developer David Brown, who spearheaded the Ripley Market, said there were a few more vendors on Saturday morning (July 3), and plenty of customers on hand.

As the newest farmers' market in the area, the Ripley event will take some time to get established, said Bond.

"We already sell at two Goderich markets, the Monday market in Kincardine, at Keady and Walkerton," he said.

There are also a Saturday farmers' market in Kincardine, Friday market in Clifford, Saturday market in Paisley and Saturday market in Listowel.

Bond said he and Cortan were busy Friday morning but they would like to see more vendors. And that will happen, they said, once people realize the market is there.

The Ripley Market runs every Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. until the afternoon.
