G'day from Purple Grove and a big “Hello” to all you faithful readers, be you near or far.

Happy birthday wishes to all the Grov-ites who celebrated in June: Alex MacDonald who turned six on June 27. Jennifer ( Collins ) Riley on June 30, Todd Thompson on June 18, and Tammy Thompson on June 22 - all turned more than six years old!

Visiting with Judy Thompson and family from June 18-26 were her sister, Lorna Parsons, and Lorna's daughter, Shauna Goyer of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. They made a flying trip to Killaloe, Ontario, to visit their mother’s grave site and to visit some of their mother’s remaining family in that area. Of course the big draw to Ontario was baby Callum Samual Thompson – Judy’s first grandchild and Lorna's first grand-nephew ( she already has five grandchildren and a grand niece - but then she is a year-and-a-half older than Judy so it’s all right for her to be ahead in the count!!).

While in the Ottawa area, they had the thrill of experiencing the earthquake at close proximity. It happened so fast they were not exactly sure it had happened until news of it flashed across the big screen TV in the restaurant where they stayed. Sure did make the coffee cups dance across the table!

Earl and June Elliott’s sale on June 19 was a success.

Recent visitors with Morley and Deanna Scott were Howard Blackwell and friend, Shirley, and Terry Burt. Terry is working in downtown Toronto and with the summit meetings going on there, he found himself with a couple of extra days off to enjoy a visit in the Grove area.

Mary Anne Kukoly and Isobelle Brooks enjoyed the quilters meeting at the home of Jim and Fran Farrell on Monday and afterward had supper at the home of Clarence and Pat Jarvis. Joining them was Jean.

Mary Anne Kukoly, Mary Black, and Joyce and Dave Olinger of Grand Prairie, Alberta, were supper guests of Kathy and Jim Black on Thursday evening.

Judy Thompson offers a little piece of trivia some may find interesting: When we were re-doing the old Gawley house, we found, written on the back side of the window casing, these words: “This house was finished for Thomas Gawley Sept. 18, 1884, Alex McAuley, carpenter, Ripley, Ontario.” So now we know when the house was built. We framed the words and it now hangs in a prominent place in the house.
