A visitor weighs in on the sign issue |

I have been reading the comments regarding signs
which are advertising your local businesses with some amusement. I
am not from here and when I arrived in the area I depended on signs
to find such things as food, lodging, shopping etc. Without signs
how would anyone know where to go to spend their money.... I think
that is what people go into business for. Everyone does not work at
the Bruce or have a business on main street
I guess council has passed a law banning
signs, so they will be reimbursing the local businesses for the
obvious lost revenue. This is going to be quite a drain on the tax
revenue for the towns involved. if businesses cannot make a profit
they will cease to operate and that tax revenue will also
disappear. this leaves quite a burden on local home owners.
I think council is being very short sighted. I
understand that they don't want the area to look like American
cities, but, come on. I think that until you come up with an
equally efficient and cost affective method of advertising and are
willing to pay for the changes, you should table this by-law.
