(DYERS BAY, ON.) – A co-ordinated effort between the RCC Trenton, Canadian Coast Guard and Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) for a missing 63 year old woman and her 10 year old grand-nephew visiting from Bosnia has ended with the pair being found.

They were last seen at the Dyers Bay dock in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, August 17th.  They had been seen paddling south along the shore in a green Coleman canoe wearing yellow lifejackets.  When the two had not returned by 4:30 p.m., emergency services were contacted.

Two Canadian Coast Guard vessels and a RCC Trenton helicopter along with OPP Marine Units converged in the area to search for the missing pair.   An extensive search of the area shoreline was undertaken.

At 5:00 a.m., a green Coleman canoe was recovered about 5 km off shore near south Cape Chin.  The search continued this morning for the missing persons.

The missing boaters were found at 10:00 am by a Coast Guard search vessel.  The 63-year-old Toronto, Ontario woman has been taken to the Lions Head hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.  Attempts to resuscitate the 10 year old grand-nephew have failed and he was pronounced deceased at the Lions Head Hospital.

A Post Mortem is to be conducted on the young man.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.
