Bluewater District School Board has new Communications Head

Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jayne Sutherland as the new Communications Head.

Sutherland brings with her a wealth of experience in communications and public affairs. She has held executive positions in the private sector as well as various senior advisory positions with both the federal and provincial governments.

She has expertise in internal and external communications, public affairs, issue management and media relations. As well, she has been a board member for a number of charitable organizations and was responsible for corporate philanthropy in her private sector positions.

“Jayne brings a broad range of skills, expertise and hands-on knowledge to the communications position at BWDSB,” said Board Chair Jennifer Yenssen. “Her many years of experience have given her a thorough understanding of the importance of communicating and liaising with all level of stakeholders,” added Yenssen.

Some of the positions Ms. Sutherland has held include: Regional Affairs Advisor to the Minister of Natural Resources Canada, Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for HSBC Bank Canada, Director of Communications for the Vancouver Stock Exchange and Chief of Staff to the Ontario Deputy Premier and Government House Leader.

Her community involvement includes, in part: board member for the BC Centre for International Education, 2nd Vice President of the Canadian Club of Vancouver and board trustee for the Vancouver Maritime Museum.

As Communications Head, Ms. Sutherland will continue the ongoing progress being made by BWDSB to improve the openness and transparency of the board, its commitment to provide new opportunities for public input and consultation and to communicate in a comprehensive, effective and timely manner to all stakeholders.
