I’d like to express my feelings about the sign issue. This is my first time to Southampton as a tourist and I came with a family member. We talked with the owner of Cedar Court in the office and she mentioned that the town wants to take down signs on the highway including hers. How would tourists find anything on the side streets? I never would have even thought there was a motel down where the Cedar Court is. We saw the sign which lead us to the motel. Without signs, which is what we need to find something, how else are we to find places. The tourist building isn’t open 24/7 nor are the gas stations. This is important to people not knowing the area and where to find things. We planned on staying 1 night but after staying we decided to do 3 nights, which I might add brought that much more income to your town. There are only two motels in Southampton that are on the main street. The one was full and the other one - I would never pay that outrageous price. If we hadn’t seen the sign Cedar Court, we would have kept going, and the town would have lost the revenue. You have a beautiful town and it will be a shame if the council and mayor get away with this. I didn’t see any factories to help pay the taxes so it must be the businesses that help keep your town taxes down so the home owners don’t have to make up the difference. If you people are so worried about the appearance of the town change the Southampton sign at both ends of town, to some bright colors and take down the old sign we saw that reads Poppy (?) with nothing but weeds around it. Also, tell the owners of some of properties to clean up and then it wouldn’t look so bad. The Sauna place is an eye sore also. Do something about the weeds and trim the trees if you really are looking for something to do. I find it hard to believe once again that a town like Southampton that seems to make their money on tourism wants to take down signs that are nicely kept. Shame on you people. Thanks for letting me speak my mind. Glad Micks Capac, Michigan
