The body of a 16-year-old girl, who went missing in Lake Huron at Station Beach, Kincardine, Monday (Aug. 16), has been recovered.

South Bruce OPP officers on all-terrain vehicles located the body of Oksana Milovanovic at about 7 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 19), on the shore about one kilometre from where she was last seen Monday.

A foreign exchange student from Vertou, France, Oksana was swimming with two other youth when she was reported to have gone under the water in heavy waves.

The four-day active search involved members of the OPP Marine Unit, Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, OPP helicopter, as well as detachment members on foot and ATVs. The Kincardine Fire Department, Bruce County Ambulance and Coast Guard Auxiliary also helped in the search.

“While our thoughts are with the girl's family at this time, we can’t lose sight of the water safety lesson that comes with this tragedy," said South Bruce OPP detachment commander inspector Bill Klym. "Swimmers have to respect the power of the water. We don’t want any more lives lost in Ontario waterways.
