Former Kincardine councillor Maureen Couture has made it a race for councillor-at-large in the Municipality of Kincardine. There are now five people running for the four positions on council. Joining Couture are Kenneth Craig, Marsha Leggett, Anne Eadie and Ron Coristine.
"Our municipality continues to face a number
of challenges over the next few years," says Couture. "While it is important to maintain the excellent quality of life we enjoy
here in the municipality, I am concerned that tax increases be kept to an
affordable rate for our citizens.
Several large projects have been and will be completed by 2011, and care
must be taken to ensure our budget demands over the next four years do not
overwhelm our taxpayers. While on council from 2003-2006, Couture strongly supported the recruitment of physicians and maintaining the Kincardine hospital. It is vital that we continue these efforts so that our residents can be assured of quality health care within our community," she says. "Great strides have been made and I hope it continues. A resident of Kincardine since 1980, Couture is married to Bill, a control technician now retired from Bruce Power. She has been active in the Rotary Club and is currently serving as treasurer for the Kincardine Legion. She has also been involved in a number of community
events and projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Massed Bands and Old
Boys' and Girls' Reunions. Couture is nearing completion of a
Bachelor's Degree at the University of Waterloo. |
![]() Maureen Couture Prior to the 2003-2006 term
of council, she worked for 17 years for the Town of Kincardine and six
years as political staff at the provincial level.
I strongly believe that the next several years will require experienced and responsible leadership from members of Kincardine council," she says. "I appreciate the need for a balanced approach to rural and urban issues in our municipality and believe that we can work together as a team to address them. I believe that my experience both on and off council will serve me well as councillor-at-large.
