The roster for councillor of Huron-Kinloss just got longer.

Current councillors Jeff Elliott and Don Murray are running for re-election, joining councillors Lillian Abbott and Jim Hanna, and newcomer Carl Sloetjes.

Mayor Mitch Twolan and deputy mayor Wilfred Gamble are also seeking another term on council.

Councillor Anne Eadie has not yet filed papers.

In Kincardine, Ward 3 councillor Randy Roppel is running for re-election.

Councillors Kenneth Craig and Marsha Leggett are also seeking another term, and deputy mayor Laura Haight is running for mayor.

Councillor Ron Hewitt is retiring from politics which leaves two openings for councillor at large.

Meanwhile, Ward 1 councillors Guy Anderson and Mike Leggett, and Ward 2 councillor Gordon Campbell have not said whether they will run again.

Mayor Larry Kraemer has said he will announce in September if he is running for re-election.

Candidates have until 2 p.m. on Nomination Day, Sept. 10, to state their intentions.

In Huron-Kinloss, the electorate will be voting electronically for the first time, meaning voters can cast their ballots by Internet or telephone. The voting period will run from Oct. 18-25, ending at 8 p.m. on Election Day, Oct. 25.

For information about the E-voting system, log onto the township website at www.huronkinloss.com  and click on "Election 2010."

The new township council will hold its inaugural meeting Monday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.

For the second time, the Kincardine electorate is voting by mail, so there will be no polling stations set up.

Voters cast ballots for their municipal council as well as the school board they support.
