If you've ever suffered through hours, weeks or even years of office politics, you'll love "Funny Business, The Musical."

The latest Bluewater Summer Playhouse production opened last night (Aug. 17) and runs to Aug. 20.

This musical comedy about office drama stars Daniel Abrahamson (who wrote the music and lyrics) as Stuart the middle manager who wants to turn his flat-lining group of workers into a "team." To do this, he tries forging them together through the performance of a talent show - thereby boosting morale and saving their jobs.

Abrahamson really steals the show as the fast-talking, suit-wearing, team-boosting front man.

His "team" consists of John McNeill as Jack, the nerdy intern; Rachel Brittain (who co-wrote the book with Dan Falk) as Brie, the perky receptionist, Janna Polzin as Diane, the tough-as-nails marketing executive; and Kincardine native Kevin McGarry as Marcus, the shark-like sales guy.

While Stuart tries to save the show, Diane and Marcus find as many ways to sabotage it.

Finally, in desperation, Stuart pits employee against employee in a battle to the end to see who ends up losing his/her job.

The music is fabulous and beautifully done. Meanwhile, the laughs come fast and furious, with double entendres zinging back and forth across the stage at a wild pace.

One minute Jack and Brie are friends, then they are enemies. First, Marcus and Diane are enemies, then they are more than friends. It gets a little complicated so pay attention.

By the end, you're so wrapped up in the show, you're singing along with the cast in the hilarious rendition of "You Can't Fire Me, I Quit."

Ultimately, Stuart finds his winning team so he can finally go to work and relax.

It's worth the price of admission just to catch the marvellous twist at the end of the play.

The show is being performed at the Kincardine Arts Centre now to Aug. 20. For tickets, call the Box Office at 519-396-5722 or E-mail boxoffice@bluewatersp.on.ca
