( TOBERMORY, ON.) –
A local senior has become a victim of a recurring scam that has been
reported several times on the Bruce Peninsula. On August 18th, a Tobermory woman received a call from someone who said her grandson was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Montreal and she needed to send money, Western Union, to bail him out of jail. The woman sent the funds and then, making enquiries, found out that her relative was not even in Quebec. Bruce Peninsula OPP reports that they have received at least 5 complaints of this scam being attempted against Bruce Peninsula residents since the first of the year. Many people will not call police when they receive this type of solicitation, so police believe the actual number would be much greater. Once again it is important to know who is calling you and if they are calling looking for money, be suspicious. Take the time to verify information with other relatives and call Phone Busters for their help in determining if the call is legitimate. Phone Busters can be reached at 1-888-495-8501 or web site www.phonebusters.com
