(SAUBLE BEACH, ON.)
– A 24-year-old man from Mississauga has lost his life while swimming at
Sauble Beach. Bruce Peninsula O.P.P. was called to Sauble Beach at 6:20
p.m., August 19th for a swimmer believed drowned.
Upon arrival, officers were advised that the man was swimming in the rough waters and was seen going under. A 52-year-old Belleville woman went out to assist and found herself in trouble in the heavy waves. The young man’s father had entered the water and pulled the woman back to safety. When he returned for his son, he could not be found. Bruce Peninsula O.P.P. began a search by boat and was joined by an Auxiliary Coast Guard boat out of Southampton and the O.P.P. boat from Kincardine. The search continued until 10:50 p.m., when a Sauble beach resident, walking the beach, about 300 metres south of where the 24-year-old had been swimming came upon the body floating near the shore. The Coroner attended Sauble Beach, pronounced the young man deceased and ordered a post mortem to be conducted Friday August 20th. The identity of the young man is being withheld pending notification of family members. |
