This summer I have been thinking and reflecting with some people about the power of two. 

When two people come together, many wonderful things can happen.  Two people can make a difference.  The energy and enthusiasm that can be created by two is a sight to behold.  There is a certain kind of power in two which can bring creativity and possibility.

Throughout the last few months, amidst this time of thinking and reflecting with people about the power of two, I have noticed the influence one person can have.  All over our area, there are people who make a difference simply by being themselves. 

I have seen a person with care-filled attention strip and paint a lighthouse.  One person playing the bagpipes creates a community at sunset.  Someone extends a welcome to a visitor to the area and the exchange begins a budding friendship.  A nurse working in the emergency room brings competence and compassion to someone in a fragile condition.

There is more.  Someone on the tennis court shows kindness at the end of a winning match by celebrating their opponent’s ability.  A neighbour goes out of his way to make sure children feel a part of things.  When a relationship breaks apart, a friend stays in touch and eases the pain.  An artist has a gift and does not hide it but offers the gift for others to witness.

So many little gestures are given throughout a community.  All it takes is one.  There is power in two.  There is wonder in one.  Who have you noticed?
