The Kincardine West Shore Under-16 girls ended their regular season in first place and were awarded their medals at the year-end tournament in Port Elgin on Aug. 15. The girls had two games scheduled for the tournament. The first was against Mount Forest, and was quite a one-sided affair with the Kincardine squad coming out on fire with beautiful passing plays. Courtney Blanchard was strong in net. Opening the scoring was Sarah Gossell on a beautiful pass from Hannah Davidson and Margot Treidlinger. Gossell took a penalty shot from a handball in Mount Forest's end and it was successful. Treidlinger scored, assisted by Gossell. Natalie Melick was also successful on a penalty kick in Mount Forest's end. And then Treidlinger scored again, assisted by Gossell. In the second half, Treidlinger fired in another shot, assisted by Gossell; and Kaitlyn Keily scored, assisted by Erica Gade. At this point, Mount Forest snuck one past Blanchard to score the team's only goal of the game. Gade kicked a corner ball and Breanna Goulding was able to kick it in, giving Kincardine the win at 8 -1. The second scheduled game of the day was against West Shore's hometown rivals, Kincardine Hawgs Breath. West Shore was able to get one past the opposition, making it 1-0 and that's where the scoring ended. Unfortunately, in the second period, Hannah Davidson and the Hawgs Breath goalie, Dayle Smith, had a collision and Davidson had to be carried off the field with a bloody nose and a swollen knee and was out of the tournament. This advanced the West Shore girls to the semi-final round and pitted them against a tough Mildmay squad. West Shore had tied this team in regular season play.

was playing a hard game, holding the line and pushing Kincardine
off-side constantly. Mildmay lit up the scoreboard first, then
Treidlinger answered with goal. The wind helped Mildmay get its
second goal and then Kincardine had a hand-ball in its end and Mildmay was
awarded a penalty kick which was successful, making the score 3-1 for
Mildmay. When Kincardine realized that Mildmay was forcing the off-sides, the girls were able to come back. Treidlinger was on fire and got two more, giving her a hat-trick. Mildmay scored again, giving it the go-ahead goal. In the dying minutes, Gade went in alone and Kincardine was sure it was the tying goal, but she was denied! Kincardine was edged out, 4-3. This
does advance the West Shore girls to the consolation round which was
scheduled in Kincardine Aug. 28, against the Hawgs Breath girls.
