Kincardine has a Service Canada outlet, available on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Kincardine Library.

Mike Elliott of the agency's Owen Sound office, was at Kincardine council Wednesday night (Sept. 1), to remind the municipality that the access point is there and urge people to use it.

Service Canada was created in 2005, he said, to improve the delivery of government programs and services to Canadians, by making access to them faster, easier and more convenient.

Today, the agency offers single-window access to a wide range of federal programs and services for citizens through more than 600 points of service located across the country, call centres, and the Internet.

"I am here today, to continue our efforts to raise awareness about the existence of this outreach site," said Elliott.

"Citizens can use this location to receive assistance with such programs and services as Employment Insurance Benefits, Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security, as well as obtaining a Social Insurance Number. I would encourage your citizens to come by and see the benefits that this one-day-a-week outreach site has to offer."

Elliott said the closest Service Canada centre is in Walkerton which is 40 kilometres away.

He said the Kincardine outlet is listed on the Service Canada website at www.servicecanada.gc.ca

Neither the Kincardine nor the Walkerton site can do passports, said Elliott. Those are done in Owen Sound or Kitchener.

He noted there is not fee for the services provided at the Service Canada outlet, unless the person requires a replacement card, such as a Social Insurance Number.

Besides Kincardine, there are outreach offices in Tobermory, Wiarton, Seaforth and Clinton.
