IMPAIRED DRIVER CAUGHT AT RIDE CHECK

(BRANT TWP, ON) – On Aug. 28, at 1:15 a.m., South Bruce OPP officers were conducting a RIDE spot check on Queen Street in the village of Elmwood when an SUV stopped for inspection.  

Officers quickly determined the driver had been drinking alcohol and he was arrested. 30 year old Christopher Hamel of Elmwood is charged with Operate over 80 Milligrams. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on Oct. 18 to answer to the charge.  Hamel’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

STOLEN MOTORCYCLE RECOVERED

(WALKERTON, ON) – On Aug. 28, at 6:07 a.m., a member of the South Bruce OPP observed a Blue Kawasaki ZX6R with Ontario licence 6R843 travelling along Yonge Street, Walkerton. The officer recognized the motorcycle as it had been reported stolen on Aug. 22.  

The motorcycle stopped at a residence along Yonge Street, Walkerton, and the driver was standing beside it, but ran when officers arrived. Following a short foot pursuit, the driver was caught and arrested. 23 year old Adam Reilly of Goderich is charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer. Reilly was held in custody to await a bail hearing.

WAVE RUNNER OPERATOR CHARGED

(LAKE HURON) – On Aug. 18, at 1:57 p.m., the South Bruce OPP marine unit was patrolling the waters of Lake Huron near Inverhuron when a safety violation was observed on a personal watercraft. 27 year old Brian Humphrey of Jarvis was charged under the Canada Shipping Act - Small Vessel Regulations as he was towing an inflatable device with no spotter.  

The South Bruce OPP marine unit is sending a strong message to water enthusiasts: “Enjoy your day on the water, but remember there is a zero tolerance for safety violations by boat or personal watercraft operators. Too many lives have been lost on Ontario water ways this summer and this has to change.”

TRAFFIC STOP FINDS PASSENGER DRINKING ALCOHOL

(POINT CLARK, ON) – On Aug. 28, at 11:05 p.m., a vehicle travelling along Alfred Street, Point Clark, was stopped and a passenger was found to be drinking alcohol. 21 year old Heather Humphries of Bowmanville is charged with Consuming Liquor out of Residence.  

The dangers of driving after drinking alcohol are obvious, but it’s also illegal for a vehicle passenger to drink alcohol. The South Bruce OPP has a zero tolerance for mixing alcohol and motor vehicles.

 

ALCOHOL SEIZED AT RIDE CHECKPOINT

(CARRICK TWP, ON) – On Aug. 29, at 12:45 a.m., members of the South Bruce OPP were conducting a RIDE check on Concession 4 in Carrick Township. A vehicle stopped and officers found a quantity of alcohol inside. 

18 year old Justin Wright of Brant Township is charged with Person under 19 years of age having Liquor. The alcohol was seized by police at the scene.

OPEN ALCOHOL SEIZED

(TEESWATER, ON) – On Aug. 29, an officer from the South Bruce OPP was on patrol in Teeswater. At 2:20 a.m., 20 year old Michael Gregory of Port Albert was found walking along Marcy Street, Teeswater, with open alcohol and charged with Having liquor out of residence.  

At 2:45 a.m., 22 year old Neil Anstett of Greenock Township was found walking along James Street with open alcohol and charged with Having liquor out of residence.

NEIGHBOUR DISPUTE LEADS TO ARRESTS

(WALKERTON, ON) – On Aug. 29, at 10:52 p.m., the South Bruce OPP was called to a neighbour dispute along John Street in Walkerton.  

Officers arrived to find that the involved parties had been consuming alcohol. While the dispute was being investigated, a male and female ran from the scene. Following a short foot pursuit, officers arrested both. 37 year old Jamie MacKenzie of Kincardine and 20 year old Stephanie Olson of Walkerton are both facing a charge of Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.
