A new Kincardine Family Health Team will help to address the concerns of the community and improve access to health care for more than 9,200 patients," says Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell.

"With innovative health promotion programs and services, Family Health Teams keep patients healthier and give physicians more time for new patients,” she says.

Family Health Teams are made up of a team of doctors and other health care providers such as nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and dietitians, all working together. They provide quality team-based care and will attach more patients in Huron-Bruce to a family doctor. They also help reduce demand on hospital emergency departments by providing non-emergency care.

The physicians of Kincardine are very grateful for the opportunity to have support for additional medical services in the community and improve access to a full range of primary health care close to home," says Dr. Gary Gurbin, lead physician with the Kincardine Family Health Team.

There are currently 170 Family Health Teams across the province providing care to more than 2.3 million Ontarians and serving more than 393,000 previously-unattached patients.

This announcement is part of the addition of 30 new teams across the province which fulfills Ontario’s commitment to create 200 Family Health Teams.

What makes these Family Health Teams so valuable is that each one is developed with the needs of the community in mind," says Deb Matthew, Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. "These additional 30 new teams will provide even greater access to quality heath care for people in the community.”
