Marion Fink (L), Joyce Bell and June McGregor, all of Kincardine, discuss the fate of the game before the final bowls are thrown at the Kincardine Lawn Bowling Club jitney Thursday afternoon

Thursday afternoon saw good weather, good fun and good food, as well as good play on the greens at the Kincardine Lawn Bowling Club on Lambton Street.

About 30 members enjoyed the afternoon which included three six-ender games and concluded with a barbecue.

The club hosts a jitney twice a year and often invites other clubs to join in the fun.

Lawn bowling begins on the May 24th weekend and runs through to the end of September. Until the end of August, the games are held on Mondays and Thursdays at 6:45 p.m. For the month of September, play begins at 1:45 p.m. In case of rain, the games are held the following day.

Linda Snyder, past-president of the club, says anyone can participate in lawn bowling. "We have extra bowls and we like to show people how to play the game," she says. The cost is $3 for an evening or afternoon of play.

Lawn bowling has been played in Kincardine for more than 110 years, says Snyder. The current membership includes year-round residents of Kincardine, summer residents, and those who come here for their vacation.
