Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer is seeking re-election in the Oct. 25 municipal election. "As mayor of our beautiful community for many years, I have been honoured to serve its best interests," he says. "I would like to continue in my work to see us grow and succeed far into the future. That's why I have decided to run for another term as your mayor." A resident of Kincardine for more than three decades, Kraemer says his heart belongs to this area. "My wife, Bonnie, to whom I have been married for 34 years, and I have raised our three sons, Jason, Adam and Conor, on our organic family farm in Kincardine Township," he says. "Our family business, Kinfarm Tire Ltd., has been serving our people and the people of the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week, since 1986. "I have proven my dedication to our community in my position as mayor, but also in my roles a councillor for the County of Bruce, as president of the Kincardine and District Chamber of Commerce, as chairman of the Canadian Association of Nuclear Host Communities, as chairman of Grey-Bruce Public Health, and as a director of the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation." Kraemer says his experience, knowledge and dedication will benefit the community during the next four years. "This term, I want to see the completion of projects I believe are needed in the community, including the university - learning centre," he says. "This would be an invaluable asset to our youth and future generations. "For years, I have worked tirelessly in support of the nuclear industry and to see the licensing of the Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) come to fruition. This term we will work to make it a reality. My research, knowledge and involvement with this issue gives me a unique perspective." He says there will be some challenges presented next term to council, as changes to municipal financing have seen the end of provincial and federal stimulus programs, as well as a reduction in Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding. "Therefore, we'll need to reign in capital spending and watch the bottom line," he says. "This is where my 35 years of business experience is going to be a great asset." Kraemer has been advocating for another Bruce County long-term care home located along the lakeshore. "I want to see the county start building reserves toward the day when this can be realized," he says.

"However, many of our senior physicians will be retiring shortly and we will need to work to secure enough doctors to succeed them." Kraemer's platform for leadership includes: listening and taking the appropriate action, demonstrating effective solutions and decision-making, taking a civil approach to dialogue and debate, and leading and building consensus with community partners."There is much to look forward to, as our community stands ready to be a leader in our province," he says.
