About 25 children and parents learn about bus safety at the First Rider program Saturday morning

With the first day of school just over a week away, Saturday morning was an important learning session for youngsters who ride the bus.

About 25 children and parents boarded the big yellow school bus, parked at St. Anthony's School in Kincardine, to learn the safety rules so the students stay safe and have a fun bus ride to and from school.

Run by Ross Young Bus Lines and First Student Canada, the program began with a short movie featuring Winnie the Pooh and the gang talking about school bus safety.

Ken Young of Ross Young Bus Lines then talked about how important it is for students to remember some safety rules, such as:

  • Sit down on the bus
  • Keep your feet out of the aisle
  • Don't eat or drink on the bus

From there, the children and parents boarded a   second bus, driven by Joyce Woods of First Student, for a ride over to Kincardine District Secondary School, to learn how to safely get on and off the bus, where to stand when the bus pulls up, and how to cross the road after getting off the bus.

The First Rider sessions ran all morning with about 30 students registered, plus their parents and guardians.
