Jacqueline Faubert is excited about the prospect of representing her immediate community and the Municipality of Kincardine as a whole, as councillor for Ward 1. She and her husband, Colin Elwood, moved to Kincardine three years ago after spending 10 years in Vancouver, B.C. She is originally from the Niagara area and Colin grew up in Kincardine. "We came home," she says. Faubert works from her home and commutes electronically to Simon Fraser University, managing and constructing on-line education courses and supervising graduate students. An Adjunct Professor in the School of Criminology at Simon Fraser, she received her PhD in criminology at that university. "Throughout my life, I have been deeply involved in community development and local governance, says Faubert. "My skill set includes, among others, grant writing, conflict resolution and negotiation, as well as public speaking." Areas of specialty in her career include crime prevention through community involvement and environmental design, particularly as it relates to youth, and policing and domestic violence. Currently, Faubert is the chairperson of economic development for the Kincardine Business Improvement Area (BIA), an executive director of the Walker House, and the founder of the Kincardine Dog Owners' Group and the KinDOG off-leash park. She also works part-time at a local farm where she is learning the challenges and rewards of family farming in today's economy. "I look forward to working with the municipality in the potential capacity of a councillor," she says. "My goal is, and has been, to maintain and improve the quality of life of our community. My platform will be grounded in the concerns, issues and requests of my constituents. I will represent the community with progressive thinking, listening ears and well-prepared involvement in decision-making processes." Specific issues of interest to Faubert are quality of life for youth and seniors, the health and vitality of downtown Kincardine, lake and land stewardship including local farming, accessible health care and an accessible community, improved educational and skills development opportunities, and the attraction of sustainable industry and business to the area.
