With just three days remaining until nominations close (Sept. 10), the election race is heating up in Kincardine. Three candidates are vying for the mayor's job, including incumbent Larry Kraemer, deputy mayor Laura Haight, and Ron Stephens. Competing for the four positions of councillor-at-large are incumbents Kenneth Craig and Marsha Leggett, former councillor Maureen Couture, Huron-Kinloss councillor Anne Eadie, and Ron Coristine. The race is on for Ward 1 councillor, with four candidates competing for the two openings: incumbent Mike Leggett, former Kincardine reeve Norm Annetts, Ron Boulton and Jacqueline Faubert. There is now a contest for Ward 2, with incumbent Gordon Campbell facing off against Candy Hewitt. Incumbent Randy Roppel is the only candidate for Ward 3. An all-candidates night will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28, 7-9 p.m., in the Kincardine Hall at the Davidson Centre. Meanwhile, it appears as if Huron-Kinloss council will be appointed by acclamation, with no candidates running against mayor Mitch Twolan, deputy mayor Wilfred Gamble or councillors Jim Hanna, Lillian Abbott, Jeff Elliott and Don Murray. Newcomer Carl Sloetjes fills the final councillor position.
