About 90 young baseball players took to the ball fields in Connaught Park, Kincardine, Saturday, to learn from some major league Blue Jays coaches.

Clinic co-ordinator John Milton says this is the first time the crew has been in Kincardine, but it's not its first foray into rural Ontario.

"Our five Blue Jays-certified coaches travel all over the province, teaching young people how to play baseball," he says. "We've taught from downtown Toronto to Thunder Bay."

The Thunder Bay gig was in conjunction with the junior championships, he says. "We've even worked with teams from Giufu, Japan."

Saturday's clinic was for players, aged seven to 14, and was sponsored by Bruce Power which also sponsors the Blue Jays. Each participant received a Blue Jays hat and T-shirt and a Bruce Power bag.

The group was divided into four stations so the coaches could teach them individual skills, such as base-running, infielding, outfielding, and throwing mechanisms. Once those were completed, the entire group took to the bats to learn good hitting techniques.
