(WALKERTON ON) – On Aug. 26, at 11:34 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a gas leak in the Town of Walkerton.

Employees of Aecon directional drilling were running out some cable when a natural gas line was contacted at the corner of Gibson Street and Jane Street.

The South Bruce OPP, Walkerton Fire Department, Hanover Fire Department and Mildmay Carrick Fire Department responded to the call.

The area was evacuated, and in the interest of public safety, residents had to leave their homes and go to the Walkerton Community Centre.

The South Bruce OPP set up road blocks to prevent vehicle and pedestrian traffic from entering the affected area.

Union Gas employees attended the scene and stopped the gas leak. The road blocks were then removed and residents able to return to their homes. No one was injured during this event.
