Bruce County Plowing Match set for Sept. 3 in Kincardine

match  This year's Bruce County Plowing  Match will be held Friday, Sept. 3,  in Kincardine.

 Hosted by the Bruce County Plowmen's Association, the event begins at 10 a.m. at the farm of Irwin Slade, northeast of Kincardine on Concession 7.

The main focus is the variety of plowing contests. Bruce County residents, along with visitors from other regions are encouraged to compete in various plowing classes: horse, antique, tractor, reversible, junior and 4-H. Competitors may confirm their attendance in advance or register on-site at the plowing match.

Other highlights include:

  • The Beef barbecue at noon featuring Bruce County beef, homemade pie and Gay Lea Foods milk products. Tickets should be reserved or purchased in advance as a limited number of tickets will be available Sept. 3. Tickets are $12.00/adult.   • Farm and Family Exhibits. From tractors to tourism, home to historical, a variety of community groups and agri-businesses will be featured on site. To register your business or group, call Barry Ribey at 519-353-5375.

  • The annual Queen of the Furrow Contest. 2009 Queen of the Furrow Tammy Fischer of Teeswater will crown a new Ambassador to represent Bruce County at a variety of events. At press time, a total of five were registered to compete. The participants will attend an interview, plow and, during the noon hour barbecue, present a speech.
  • Also taking place: The Farm Credit Canada Media Plowing Challenge; an Event Ambassador Plowing Class; and the Mayors, Members of Council and VIP Plowing Class.
