Well, the weather has been most unco-operative on the last two Thursdays, as our weekly Mens’ Night event had to be cancelled both weeks due to rain. However, there are some results from the match play events to report. Steve Green won the single Mens’ Match Play event when he defeated Frank Yakabuski in the final match. And Rick Grolway and Charlie Schmalz won the team Mens’ Match Play when they defeated the team of Brian Acton and George Matheson in a tough match that went three extra sudden death holes. Congratulations to Steve, Rick and Charlie. In the Senior Mens’ Match Play action, on September 14, Derryl Urstad won first low gross in the A-flight, for handicaps 7 – 21, with a score of 80, Terry Bailey was second with an 84, followed by Barry Beatty with an 88. Paul Holk and Jan Riddall shared first low net with net scores of 69. In the B-flight, for handicaps 22 – 27, John McCormack had a great round of 94 to win first low gross, three strokes ahead of Bill Thomson, who took second low gross with a 97. Peter Welford took first low net with a net 68 followed by Jim Connelly with a net 68. In the C-flight, for handicaps 28 and above, Doug Oatman broke the 100 mark with a 99 and won first low gross in the flight. Don White was second with a score of 108, while Bert Tripp won first low net with a net 70, followed by the steady George Wilson with a net 74. Paul Holk won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole while Terry Bailey took the same prize on #13. On September 21, in Senior Mens’ Match Play, Lorne Lazenby had the low round of the day with an 87 and took first low gross in the a-flight, for handicaps 12 – 16. Terry Bailey was only one stroke behind and took second low gross with an 88. Mike Cleary won first low net with a net 70, while Dan Lazenby took second low net with a net 72. In the B-flight, for handicaps 17 – 26, Al Cruickshank won first low gross with a 94, followed by Tom Bailey with a 97. Bill Thomson took first low net with a net score of 73, one stroke ahead of Jim Connelly who won second low net with an net 74. In the C-flight, for handicaps 27 and above, Bill Richards won first low gross with a 103, one stroke ahead of Doug Oatman who won second low gross with a score of 104. George Wilson was at the prize table again winning first low net with a net 76, followed by Dennis Johnston with a net 85. Barry Beatty won the Closest to the Pin competition on the fifth hole. In Senior Mens’ Match Play action, Steve Green, who won the Mens’ Single Match Play event, defeated Bill Lazenby on the eighteenth hole to win the Senior event as well. Congratulations to Steve.
