Ever wondered what happened in history on the date you were born?
Anne Duke Judd For those born in Bruce County, a new every-day celebration of heritage can give you the answer. The book 'Bruce Day by Day" compiled by Anne Judd and illustrated by Ken Thornburn, is a history of Bruce County dates where you can correspond family dates with those in history. Is your birthday May 27th? So was the 'big fire' of 1877 in Walkerton; December 7th? Completion of the Railway track to Southampton in 1872; July 1? Official opening of the Wiarton airport in 1947. This is a book that opens history to the birthdates of families and friends. As a gift, names can be entered into the birthdates that correspond to the time in history and, for those with ties to Bruce County, it is the perfect gift. The pen and ink illustrations by Thornburn depict the early pioneer history of a bygone era in Bruce County. Thornburn is trained in commercial art, illustration and photography and has taught at the Ontario College of Art and worked in feature and c.ommercial film in Toronto before returning to his Bruce County roots. His art has appeared on posters for the International Plowing Match 2008 (IPM), Bruce Power restart project and many other venues. Anne Duke Judd, who moved to Bruce County in 1970, has written books, feature articles and poetry that often reflects the heritage of the people. Judd founded The Brucedale Press in 1994 to preserve and publish the words of authors and continues today to provide local authors with the opportunity to be published. She continues to write, edit and garden in Saugeen Shores. For information on how and where to purchase a copy, call Brucedale Press at 519-832-6025 or contact www.brucedalepress.ca
