Despite the inclement weather on Saturday, the Ripley Fall Fair saw another successful year. Even the weather could not dispel our spirits of attending, showing, meeting friends, family and renewing old acquaintances.

Our 4-H Clubs did us proud in showing their animals and we would like to say thank you and congratulate you for all the hard work you have done through the summer in preparation for the fair. An excellent showing for our youngsters as well as for the ones who travelled for the Invitational Shows. It is through our 4-H Leaders, the involvement of our youth, the providers of their animals, and the help of family that makes everything shine through in the end. May we all see you again next year and no doubt with some new faces and even more enthusiasm.

Of course one cannot go without saying an enormous thank you to the volunteers, behind the scenes workers and the folk who enter the many displays and sections that complete the fair.

Christine Clifford, daughter of Arnie and Diane Clifford, was able to be home from Japan to visit with family, friends and enjoy the fair while here.

Kathryn Bridge, daughter of Dennis and Donna Bridge, returned home from Quebec to attend the fair, being one of the 4-H Beef Leaders, and enjoyed visiting with family, friends and relatives.

We are glad to report that Morley Scott is recovering nicely at home from his recent hip surgery and look forward to seeing him once again being up and about the community.

Harvey and Betty Needham enjoyed their time at the International Plowing Match held at St. Thomas last week.

Frieda Owen of London met with Bette MacLeod on Wednesday for a visit, lunch and then a drive to Paisley to meet up with friends for the afternoon.

On Saturday Dave and Frieda Owen enjoyed the fair with Bette. Burt and Judy Hayes met up with Bette at the fair and then enjoyed an evening buffet at the Chinese restaurant in Kincardine.

Bob and Sheena Houghton and their children were home and took in the fair with their parents, Doug and Shirley MacDonald.

Our deepest sympathy to Mary Orr and her family on the loss of her husband, Bob, and to Bob's sisters and brother Harvey.

Viola Bridge enjoyed taking in the fair and especially meeting up with her grandson, Douglas and Becky Coulthard, and their boys, Logan and Mason of London. Douglas is the son of LeRoy and Shirley Coulthard also of London. By the looks on their faces, the boys were enjoying the delights of the fair and concluded that the yellow cotton candy tasting like bananas has to be nothing but healthy. Carman, Cheryl and Kyle Bridge were able to spend some time with the Coulthard family as well.

On Friday, Oct. 1, the Purple Grove Women's Institute is hosting a Rose Program at the Purple Grove Community Centre at 2 p.m. sharp. The Rose Program is regarding a Mission for Cancer Care in southwestern Ontario that promotes wigs and accessories for all cancer patients. So please mark this date on your calenders. We extend a warm welcome to all and be sure to bring your friends. We'd like to see you there.

So to everyone, enjoy what the autumn season has to offer and keep in touch.
