Boulevards in Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss are going to become crowded with signs as the campaigning begins

Election signs are springing up throughout the Municipality of Kincardine now that the candidates list has been finalized.

Nominations closed Friday afternoon and there is a full slate of candidates for Kincardine, except for Ward 3 with Randy Roppel acclaimed as councillor for that ward.

Incumbent mayor Larry Kraemer is facing competition from deputy mayor Laura Haight, and Ron Stephens.

There are seven running for the four councillor-at-large positions on council: incumbents Kenneth Craig and Marsha Leggett, Huron-Kinloss councillor Anne Eadie, Ron Coristine, former Kincardine councillor Maureen Couture, Ronald Farrell and Ward 1 councillor Guy Anderson.

In the race for the two seats representing Ward 1 are incumbent Mike Leggett, Ron Boulton, former reeve Norm Annetts, and Jacqueline Faubert.

And Ward 2 incumbent councillor Gordon Campbell is squaring off against Candy Hewitt for that seat.

Kincardine is conducting a mail-in ballot system with voter kits going out on Sept. 27, to be returned by voting day Oct. 25.

Meanwhile, in Huron-Kinloss, Roger Smith of RR 3, Ripley, filed papers just before the 2 p.m. deadline Friday to force an election for the five councillor positions on township council.

Joining him in the race are incumbents Jim Hanna, Lillian Abbott, Jeff Elliott and Don Murray, and Carl Sloetjes of Lucknow.

Mayor Mitch Twolan and deputy mayor Wilfred Gamble were acclaimed.

The electorate in Huron-Kinloss will vote electronically for the first time, using telephones and computers.
