Mike Leggett says there are projects and issues that need to be dealt with in the next term of Kincardine council, which is why he is running for re-election as Ward 1 councillor. "I want to see a lot of these projects to completion," he says, "including the fire training facility and the Bruce Energy Centre revitalization." He also hopes to have several financial issues dealt with in the next four years. "Some changes need to be made to keep costs at a reasonable rate for our taxpayers," he said. As he completes his first four years in office, Leggett says it takes one full term on council just to understand everything that's going on. Then, the next term to start getting things done. "The major issues in the next council term are doctor recruitment and trying to keep taxes in line," he said. "There are a lot of cost savings we can realize." As for being a watchdog on the finances, Leggett jokes that councillor Ron Hewitt is retiring from politics, "so somebody has to keep their eyes on the books." During his first term as Ward 1 councillor, Leggett has been the municipality's representative on the Paisley Fire Board, served as chairman of the economic development committee, and was chairman of the Inverhuron Bike Park ad hoc committee. "I'd like to see us do more fun projects like the bike park," he says. The 35-year-old father of two operates his own landscape business and is a volunteer firefighter with the Kincardine Fire Department.
