The Once Upon A Time program is once again available now through October 28th, 2010 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for grade 4 students.  Dressed in Medieval costumes, students will participate in an interactive and hands-on program highlighting skills of Medieval life.  Costumed Museum staff and volunteers lead the hands-on, medieval themed activities, such as creating brass rubbings, participating in calligraphy, making chain mail and coins, discovering medieval artifacts, and designing catapults.

A medieval lunch is also an important component of the program. This optional monastery-style meal is eaten with the hands, as was common in Medieval times, while the students listen to medieval music and to a presentation on the origins of some of our nursery rhymes, common phrases (i.e. threshold), and superstitions. In true monastery fashion, no talking is allowed throughout the meal of potato-based soup in a bread bowl, chicken drumsticks, and oatmeal cookies.

The BCM&CC is appreciative of all sponsorships – because they allow us to offer continued quality programming for adults and kids alike.  In this particular case, the sponsoring of our medieval lunches (through a $1000 donation) the Port Elgin Rotary Club will allow us to bring down the cost of the event and ultimately make it affordable for more students to participate.
